 Day 1- Intoduction

Myself and one of my best friends from school James have had a warm welcome from the Cosmic team, we have been introduced to some of the team including Paul Turner, Sarah Lapping and Pete Goff (who will help us later in the week) and have filled out bits of the work experience log book which has been offered by school. Our first course of action was to outline what we would like to achieve in the WEXP which is to develop our knowledge of the Cosmic organization and get more information of how Cosmic operate in a work environment. Paul had given us a task to research AI- how it influenced current jobs and if it could take over jobs in the future. I had learnt that Cosmic is a VCSE (voluntary, community and social enterprise) and that they work with 80 ish businesses which cover 4500-5000 people.

Day 2

We have been introduced to Pete who is the web Co- Ordinator at Cosmic. He gave us the task to create a blog about CMS (contact management system). I had created a plan for the blog which was to explain what a CMS is, why businesses use it, give examples of CMSs and the pros and cons of them (we did 3 CMSs- WordPress, Squarespace and Druple), what other options are there to CMSs and a overview to finish it off. Me and James worked on this for the whole day. I have learnt what happens behind the scenes (what happens when a company want a website to designing and making it).

Day 3

We had finished the task around 11 ish where Pete had gave us some constructive criticism which was to add URLs and pictures to our blog. After that Pete tasked us to plan a website using a actual client of Cosmic using a specification that they gave and our own ideas. We didn’t have time to finish that task. I have learnt how to take client requests and make it into a plan of action.

Day 4

We started at 9:30 to join a teams call which was part of the restart program- a program to teach people digital skills that are necessary to make a CV or other means to get a job. (We joined Thomas Curwen that taught people how to insert images and tables into word and how to make calculations in Excel). After the meeting we met with Emma Stannard who gave us two tasks- a prioritization task and a designing task on Canva. I haven’t used Canva before so this was interesting for me. We started the task however couldn’t finish it.

Day 5

We finished the poster and prioritization task and asked Sarah to help us with filling in our WEXP log book supplied by school.

Overview

This had been a lovely environment to work in as a team and individually. The tasks were challenging in places however we learnt a lot about how the company runs and it was a very interesting experience. All of the team were very supportive and kind towards us and I really liked how the week went. The week flew by and the experience was lovely.

Thank you for letting me and James work here. 😉
