I’m gonna try and summarise my first two days at Cosmic here because I was planning to post here yesterday and I forgot (very in character for me).
Day 1
Going into this, you should know that I’m a very shy and socially anxious person. I don’t know how to talk to people very well, so if I happen to do well, what you’re seeing is a little something that we in the business call ✨ improvisation! ✨ With this in mind, day 1 started of wonderfully. I, along with my mother, was greeted by Paul, who was actually very nice. :3 We had a bit of a chat about what it is I do and what I want to do, which in this instance happens to be developing video games. When you deal with every aspect of development like I do, you come to learn that any information is helpful, no matter how seemingly unrelated it is. Not that any of this is unrelated, I’m just making a point.
Either way, once Paul finishes showing me around the place, I’m taken into Office 3, where I’ll be spending pretty much my entire first two days. Day 1 served as an introduction to what goes down at Cosmic, including getting me all signed in and enabling me to make this very post, which I will not make until the next day (today). You understand, I’m very good at confusing people I write to. Either way, on Day 1 I was introduced to several people within Office 3 and Office 4, but don’t ask me to remember every name I’ve learned over the course of the my experience, I literally got here yesterday. One of these people was Jon, who I spent the majority of my day with. From dispensing his wisdom upon me, I learned several things about cybersecurity, and other cool network things. I also successfully installed a Linux Mint Virtual Machine on the Windows laptop I’m using this week, and tried and failed to install Visual Studio on said virtual machine (I do like 70% of my computer activity on my MacBook and the other 30% on my Windows PC, I don’t know how to Linux). With some assistance from the man himself, we got Visual Studio running, which I’d call a success. I also displayed my current in-progress game, Halloween Project 3, and my recently released joke game, Tobis Cube. We discussed programming things and the other sort of stuff you’d expect from two tech lads (or rather, one tech lad and one tech non-binary person), having a chat.
All in all, Day 1 was nice. :3 👍
Day 2
Day 2 has less to describe than Day 1, not to discredit Day 2 in the slightest, just that instead of doing many small things like I was in Day 1, I was doing one thing that took me the whole day, and sometimes you just need some of that.
Upon entering the building and shortly afterwards Office 3, I was introduced to Jamie, who just as with Paul, is very nice and I must say I can sense humour when it’s in the room. Most of the time. …This time I could though. Man’s funny, that’s what I’m saying. My day pretty much consisted of researching several different CMSs (Content Management Systems), one of which being WordPress, which I couldn’t help but notice this very blog is hosted on. Well done, Cosmic, making me connect my “work life” to my “everything else I’ve ever done ever life”. Golf claps. 👏 That and listening to the absolute 🔥 FIRE 🔥 beats that made themselves part of the ambience. In addition to meeting a few new friendly faces, Day 2 (today) has been pretty nice. I’ve been informed that tomorrow will be more activity-based, which, I can’t lie to you, I’m kind of intrigued about. But I’m not here to predict the future, last time I did that I got distracted by my friends and then even today I still haven’t done the thing I predicted I would have done about two weeks ago. (Not Cosmic-related, this is entirely personal at this point.)
I’m informed that I’ll be joined by Callum from my computer science and business classes for the next three days, which shall be intriguing. Whether we’re in the same room doing the same stuff or not is beyond me, again, I’m not here to predict the future.
I also just realised I’m publishing this at 20:20, that’s funny.
