Would you believe it, I tried to predict the future again in my last blog post, and I proved myself wrong again! I was totally convinced that Day 4 was going to be my least favourite day of my five here at Cosmic, but it.. actually ended up being one of if not my best day so far. I bet myself a fiver on that one too, so.. do I owe myself a fiver now? I suppose my bank balance remains the same.
Aside from the odd larger-than-average fly attack, Day 4 was very peaceful and very nice! I started off my day by, for the first time this week, setting up shop in Office 4 instead of Office 3. They were having a meeting in Office 3, which makes sense. Also, we had a guest star: a baby. I’m not 100% sure what said baby’s name was but you know what, they made my day slightly different and I can’t be mad at that. Either way, the first two hours of my day (10am – 12pm) were spent chilling out watching a Zoom call about technology and farming which, I may not be a farmer, but I live literally right next to a farm, so I guess it’s kind of relevant. Besides, I didn’t have to turn my mic or camera on for the three other people in the call who, might I add, I had never met before, so that made ye olde anxiety pretty happy. I have to say though, it was pretty interesting, so I was still doing something of value with those two hours other than sippy sipping my water and engaging in a light sabre battle with a double-team of flies.
By the time the Zoom call ended, it was effectively bang on 12pm, which was all the confirmation I needed that it was lunch time, so, as you’d expect, I did exactly that. Nothing particularly interesting about that unless you were, for some reason, curious about what I eat. 👀
At 1pm, I finally got to meet the mystery lady who I’d been sharing e-mails with when I first applied for this work experience placement, Emma! I’d been hearing about her a few times over the course of the week and the build-up to this moment was unbelievable, but it finally happened, and the tension was resolved. Also it turns out she’s very nice, which is always a plus. ^v^ I successfully managed to talk to several people today about video games, which in all instances for me, is an absolute win. Like, I get to talk about something I know about and am passionate about, what’s not to love? Anyway, I hopped onto a Teams meeting with Emma to finally meet her, and she gave me a couple of tasks, one of which being admin stuff, and the other being a creative exercise. If you didn’t know already, creativity might as well be my first, second and third names, cuz I’m overflowing with the stuff on a damn near daily basis. I mean, heck, look at all the game ideas and stuff I have – it’s wild.
I’m gonna be perfectly honest with you, I was completely unaware that the admin task was an admin task, because I for some reason neglected to read the entire second half of the title of the Word document I was supplied with until after I had done it. Surprisingly enough, and this caught me off-guard too, I actually ended up quite enjoying the admin task! It essentially boiled down to “here’s a list of 18 tasks, sort them in order of importance, in your opinion”. I don’t mind explaining my process here, just because I don’t think I mentioned half of it in the document, whoopsie doops! 😅 My first step was sorting the list of 18 into two lists: items with a time limit, and those without. Once that was done, I sorted both lists in order of importance. For the time-sensitive items that was easy, I just sorted them by how long until they were due (in this hypothetical scenario). Once that was done, I took the shorter list of items without a clear indication of a due date, and slotted them into the main list roughly where I thought they’d go. That was that at that point, I just had to write down my rankings and explain a few of my choices. Nothing too hard there! I had that done pretty quickly and moved right onto the creative task with 90 minutes until 4pm!
This was where things were about to kick into high gear Kit enjoyment. I was tasked with creating a poster. MY ACTUAL ELEMENT. I’ll tell you what though, I had a blast making that poster for real, I was lovin’ it more than McDonalds be lovin’ it. *insert McDonalds jingle here 🎶*. And I did quickly boot up YouTube and turn on some chill and might I say 🔥 FIRE 🔥 work music by an artist I really like: Stream Cafe! I recommend their stuff, it’s very good to work to in my opinion. Specifically I turned on the song “Sweet Cafe” and got to work! I was given a couple of guidelines to follow regarding logos, as well as a three-part colour palette (which, from an artist and character designer’s standpoint, very nice colours might I add! ^v^) and some general ideas of what the thing I was writing about was about. I was also given the opportunity to make a poster about something of my choice, but I decided to try following the guidelines. In retrospect, I’d love to give the personal on a shot too. I’ve got a lot I could make a poster about!
Part way through my poster adventure, I was asked by one of the nice ladies in the office (I can’t remember her name, I’m sorry 😭) if I wanted to join her to drop of some consent forms, y’know, as a change of scenery. To be fair, I had been sat in one spot for the past five hours straight, so I agreed. We actually had a lovely chat on the way there, and on the way back!
Welcome to the 1,020 work mark! I try to go for 1,000 words per post at this point, just cuz it’s a nice number of words to be writing at *checks watch* midnight. I write good stuff late at night, I’ve found. Anyway, (I ramble a lot, that’s just how I am) after arriving back at Office 4 at 3:40-ish, I finished off the poster, which, might I say, I am CHUFFED with. I’mma be honest with you, I nailed that, that is an A-tier poster at least. ✨
Either way, 4pm arrived and so I took my leave. I’d like to circle back around now and say that I was not expecting today to be as positive an experience as it ended up being. This week has been a roller coaster, so the nice bits are always welcome. Somehow my pessimism from my previous post has turned into optimism, since I’m definitely gonna look back on this week fondly.
We’ll see how tomorrow’s gonna be. I’m pretty much just finishing up my unfinished projects, maybe a couple more bits and bobs. Plus, brownies. 👀

P.S. The laptop I’m using for work experience works differently to my laptop that I use for my own projects (and typing this up!) so I be tapping on my own laptop’s trackpad and nothing’s happening cuz I forgot I have to actually click. This week be hitting different, man.
